Applying an Ecoflex 00-30 Silicone Prosthetic

Emmy award winning makeup artist Stevie Bettles demonstrates the basics of applying a silicone appliance in this brief how-to sequence.

You Will Need: duoMatrix™ NEO mold, Ecoflex™ 00-30, Skin Tite™, Airbrush, Airbrush makeup

Step 1: Creating the prosthetic

'Degassed' Ecoflex 00-30 silicone is poured into a 2 part Matrix NEO mold which has a layer of dish soap release applied. After the material cures, it is demolded by soaking the mold in water to activate the dish soap release.

Step 2: Application of adhesive and appliance

Skin Tite® silicone adhesive is applied to the area where the piece will be applied. The piece is applied over the Skin Tite® adhesive. The piece is held in place until the Skin Tite® adhesive fully cures.

Step 3: Finishing

The edges are blended using thickened material. The piece is colored using an airbrush and airbrush makeup. The completed scar appliance looks completely natural and organic.
